The northern parishes of Grenada, being St Mark, St Patrick and parts of St Andrew, along with the sister isles of Carriacou
and Petit Martinique had been severely marred by the passage of Hurricane Beryl, a category 4 storm, on July 1st 2024.
Grenada, under the leadership of Prime Minister the Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Minister for Disaster
Management, and many of Grenada’s friends and neighboring islands were quick to react positively.
Disaster Relief and Aid
Coordinating with local personnel to send essential supplies like food, water,
shelter materials, generators, and medical equipment.
Providing tarpaulins and temporary housing or having friends and neighbours host
displaced residents from Carriacou and Petit Martinique or neighbouring villages.
Minister for Foreign Affairs of Grenada, Hon. Joseph Andall received a donation
on behalf of the Government of Grenada from the Embassy of the
People’s Republic of China in Grenada.
Infrastructure Support
The various utility companies sent repair crews, equipment, and materials to help
restore power, water and internet. Provision of technical expertise, insurance
experts and engineers to assess damage and coordinate rebuilding efforts.
In addition to the above, medium to long term recovery processes is also in progress
Plans and programs to support the rebuilding of homes, businesses, and community facilities.
Provision of economic assistance and opportunities to help the local economy recover.
It is hoped that neighbouring, regional and diaspora Communities shall continue to work
closely with Grenadian authorities to understand what are the priorities and to provide the most
useful and timely assistance. A collaborative, approach can help the affected communities
of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique to recover quickly.
